Description:
Big Buddy matches well-screened volunteer male mentors with fatherless boys aged approx. 7-14yo. Men can volunteer to be a part of the Big Buddy Mentoring scheme.
Big Buddy works on the simple philosophy that boys develop more confidence and resilience when they have a positive male role model to look up to.
Every boy without someone to call Dad deserves a positive male role model to spend time with. In just a few hours each week Big Buddies help boys grow confidence, self-worth and the ability to make better life choices.
Mums, aunties and grans do an amazing job of rearing boys without Dad around. But these women report that they aren’t always able to ‘model’ the maleness that their boys often crave. In psychological terms, modelling means what a person learns from watching and being around others they recognise as being ‘like them.’
There are no charges for the service; we are a registered charity and this is covered by donations and grants.
Big Buddy offers its services in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and the Wellington regions with plans to expand in the future.
